LISTEN: Podcasts that are goodness for the ears and mind

Let’s just be real here, as parents, we don’t have too much time to listen to a podcast, especially in the car because our stereos are generally controlled by our wonderful little legends.

When I do actually get some time to listen to one, it’s either quick burst type of episode or if I have some time in the car while Coopy sleeps at school pick up, I have the opportunity to listen to a little bit of a longer one (IYKYK). I like to use my time wisely, so if I’m going to dedicate my ears to a podcast, I want it to be bullshit and fluff free, straight to the point and full of goodness that I can take away from it. Yes, I devour myself in self development podcasts because it’s what I like to use my quiet listening time for (coz again, as parents there’s not too much of that).

Here are some podcasts I recommend chucking on your listen list, especially if you want to keep growing and learning from some really wonderful and insightful humans:

DO YOU F*CKING MIND?

I came across this podcast by recommendation from a friend who’s actually friends of this podcaster and BY GOLLY, was I stoked that she told me about it!

If the name doesn’t give you a vibe already, Alexis is a no-fucks-given human with a background is Neuroscience and brain health, here to provide us with “mindset hacks for a badass life”. She doesn’t fluff around and uses real life, easy to understand situations to help us understand the insights into shit we deal with every single day.

I kicked off my listening experience with Episode 236 “Determine your own value and never look for it in other places again” which although 48 minutes long (Coopy slept real good this day), is 48 minutes of your time worth dedicating to this episode or another of your choice, because I absolutely recommend this podcast.

Not only did I learn, I nodded along, I had my “YES!” moments and most of all, I laughed because this chick sounded like what I think I’d sound like if I had a podcast. Potty mouthed, again, no-fucks-given and just f*cking real.

THE MINDSET MENTOR

Rob Dial Jr is an absolute legend that I’ve been listening to for many years now. He’s very well known for his short (around 10 minute long) words of wisdom, getting straight to the point and of course, bullshit free.

He’s one of the only “coaches” that I listen to because I tend to find so many of them so ignorant and wanky, but Rob is far from that. He’s just like you and I, worked his way up over the years and you really feel like he’s genuinely trying to help the rest of break out of our own heads and start living our best lives.

When I used to do mobile training to kick off my Monday mornings many, many years ago, I would always listen to an episode in the car on the way to my clients, as Monday was when my anxiety would at it’s highest and these would always help shift my thinking and take focus away from the racing thoughts.

I can’t even tell you how many episodes I recommend, it’s lots okay.

IT’S F*CKING SPIRITUAL

I’m sensing a theme of the podcasts I like to listen to from writing this piece, two already have f*ck in the title. Sorry not sorry, if you’re here, you know that’s me anyway.

This recommendation came from YOU, so thank you for throwing it my way!

As I like to say, i’m spiritual, I meditate, love yoga, use essential oils, talk to the angels but I will also swear too much sometimes, I love a lunch accompanied with rosè and flip the bird (not in view of anyone) but if you give me the shits, just know that I’m flipping you off from the other side of the wall or at my phone.

I think what really captured me in this podcast is the episode “The Difficult Side of Manifestion” because really all you ever see on social media these days is everyone becoming a “manifestation coach” or showing us how they manifested this insane life of mansions, holidays and money that a lot of us would only dream of, but to hear it from someone when we didn’t see the process and the hard shit along the way, hearing that it’s because of manifestation starts to make it seem wanky. This episode really helps get insight into the other side of it, where it’s a real process, with real struggles and fluff free. That’s what we need to be hearing while hearing how it can actually work.

TED TALKS DAILY

Real people, talking about real experiences. I can’t even tell you how many TED talks I have both listened to and watched that made me cry.

Are you going through some shit? TED talk probably has an episode for it. Someone out there understands how you’re feeling and is now up on a giant stage talking about, but you’ll feel like they’re talking directly to you. This is your chance to learn, feel understood and feel human, coz that’s what you are.

All these episodes are different lengths, so scroll through and save the ones that jump out of you so you’re ready to go the next time that you have some time to listen.

Absolute goodness for the ears, and the mind. You deserve it.

Next time you’re feeling anxious, stressed or going through something that you’re struggling with and want to feel understood and heard, pop on a podcast instead of some music, it could change your day and your way of thinking.

You deserve to feel awesome,
